Grow Leaders at all levels
We need to create leadership pathways at all levels
If someone feels called to ministry in our diocese, it is not always clear what they should do or who they should speak to. We would like to see investment in a ministry apprenticeship and student ministry program.
We want to see our future ministry leaders supported and encouraged at every step of their journey; from when a member of the congregation might first volunteer to serve in a ministry role in their parish, to ordinations, to senior roles in the diocese.
We want investment in St Mark’s for home-grown ministry leadership
St Mark’s National Theological Centre is a place of learning of which we should be proud, but it needs more support. We don’t think we should have to rely on other dioceses to train our ministry leaders. We want St Marks to be the go-to place for training for our volunteers and stipendiary ministries. More than that, we think St Marks has an important role to play, not just for the Anglican church, but for all Christian churches in our region as our local community of ministry training.
We need to train lay ministers
Most ministry is done with laypeople, and the ministry of laypeople is the backbone of parish life.
We need to invest in training lay people across various areas, such as teaching God's word, ministering to children and young people, pastoral care and parish administration.
We anticipate that the more lay people are trained and enabled for ministry, the more our parishes will thrive, and the more people might turn to vocational ministry too.
